Pageant Success Stories

The opportunity and experience of participating in our pageant helps to develop self-esteem and skills that can reach far beyond our pageant and festivities.

Many of our past contestants have gone on to great careers and have made significant contributions to our community. Below are a featured few.


Nancy Perez was crowned Queen in 1967. As a child she attended St. Mary’s School and then Warren Harding High School. A few years later, she gave birth to the love of her life, her daughter, Liza, and moved to Miami. There Nancy took paralegal courses and pursued a career as a legal assistant/office administrator. She is an AIDS activist, involved in walks, and did volunteer work at the AIDS pediatric hospital. She ran and operated her own theatre production company with her daughter, who is a poet and writer. Being actively involved in theater Nancy was responsible for several shows featuring spoken word artists, and sponsored a summer camp for underprivileged children presenting art, music and poetry. Nancy is now retired and living in Puerto Rico.


Rita Marie born and raised in Bridgeport Connecticut. Rita Marie attended the public schools in Bridgeport and graduated from Central Magnet High School, attended University of Bridgeport, and Boston Conservatory School of Music.

Rita Marie a singer and songwriter made her professional singing debut at the age of 19 at the former New Haven Coliseum in Connecticut opening for Puerto Rican romantic balladeer Danny Rivera.
She has shared the stage with renowned artists and acts, including Bebe and Vicky Winans, Bill and Rene Morris, Phill Driscoll, Adlan Cruz, Ingrid Rosario and many others.

Her music from her CD’s “Delight” and “From the Depths of My Soul” has been played throughout the United States and other countries worldwide. India being one of them as she lived there for a year.

Nicholas J. Colon (Little Mr. Puerto Rico 1994) was born in the Bronx, New York and raised in Bridgeport, CT. He was crowned as King in 1994. Nicholas graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport. He is currently attending Housatonic Community College, majoring in Business Administration. He is employed by Fed Ex and Lowe’s. Nicholas loves sports in his spare time, wrestling, football, basketball. He loves spending time with his family. Nicholas is looking to design his clothing line and eventually own his own business. He is determined to always believe, always have Faith in knowing that dreams do come to reality..


Enid Velez (Miss Puerto Rico 2004) served as Miss Puerto Rico of Fairfield County in 2004. In 2007, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut and obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts in Spanish earning a Silver Medal of Excellence in her major and receiving a minor in Criminal Justice. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. In the summer of 2006, Enid visited Granada, Spain and studied at the University of Granada as part of a study abroad program for her baccalaureate degree. She is a Licensed Middle School Spanish Teacher in the State of North Carolina and currently serves as a Spanish and World Languages teacher at Meadowlark Middle School in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District.


Eusebio Velez (Mr. Puerto Rico 2003) served as Mr. Puerto Rico of Fairfield County in 2003. In 2010, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Integrative Studies. He is also a 2006 graduate of Lincoln College in Southington, Connecticut were he obtained an Associate’s of Applied Science with a concentration in Mortuary Science. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Eusebio is licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in the states of Connecticut and Florida and works as an Independent Contractor. He is also licensed by the International Conference of Funeral Services Examining Boards. His field specialties include serving as a bilingual funeral director, providing bereavement counseling, and preparing pre-need contracts. He is a long time public speaker and youth advocate.


Erika Ramos (Miss Puerto Rico 2006) is currently married, has a beautiful son and currently living in Mass.


Lutisha Lynn Otero (Miss Puerto Rico 2007) Dancer\Model (Luti) Born in Bridgeport, CT and attended Luis Muñoz Marin Middle School and graduated from Harding High School in Bridgeport, CT. Luti loved to dance as a child and act like a model. At age 7 she competed in the Mini Queen Pageant, winning the trophies for Best Talent, Beautiful Eyes, and “Pasarela.” Though she did not win the title of Little Miss Puerto Rico, Luti put her competing on hold until she was of age to compete for Miss Puerto Rico. Luti started her dance classes and became a passionate dancer. She has performed at the Congress shows in Boston and Puerto Rico. In 2007, Lutisha competed in the Mr. and Miss Puerto Rico and won the Title of Miss Puerto Rico of Fairfield County. Lutisha continued taking dance lessons and was accepted into the RCA dance school. She received a full scholarship to the Earl Mosley Institute of the Arts. She gained dance skills in the Modern Dance, Jazz and many more. With the support and faith of her family she continued to strive for success.

Today, Lutisha Lynn Otero, Miss Puerto Rico 2007 is a dance instructor for not only the public schools but also private dance studios as well teaching Bachata classes. Lutisha continues to perform at events, congress and is more motivated than ever to move forward by staying focus, determined and faithful to what she believes; knowing that dreams can come true but only if one believes in them.

Sergeant Omar Armando Jimenez (Mr. Puerto Rico 2007) was born in Bridgeport , CT. He is the son of Waldemar Jimenez from Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, and Luz N. Martinez of Cayey, Puerto Rico. Omar was raised in Bridgeport and attended public schools in Bridgeport. His mother moved to Cayey, Puerto Rico where Omar went to school there for a short time. HIs family moved back to Stratford, Connecticut where Omar graduated from Bunnell High School. In 2007, Omar, 17 years old competed in the Cultural Pageant and won the title of Mr. Puerto Rico of Fairfield County. Omar has been involved in different charity fund raising activities while holding the title of Mr. Puerto Rico of Fairfield County and with different groups in the community. He is a member of St. Charles Boromeo Church in Bridgeport where he and his father help with fund raising activities.

At that age he also pursued one of his goals of becoming a soldier and joined the CT National Guard. Omar trained at Fort Leonard Woods Missouri where he became a Military Police Officer. In 2012 during the last month Omar was promoted to the rank of Sergeant for the CT. ARMY National Guard. Omar had orders to be deployed in August 2012, where he went to Texas for training, followed by his first military tour to Afghanistan .

He continued his studies at Housatonic Community College for his Associate’s Degree with a Major in Sociology. His studies where interrupted as he had to comply with his military duties and an intense military training for an upcoming deployment. Omar has successfully completed the hiring process and finished his training at the police academy. He is a Police Officer with the town of Stratford where he currently resides. Omar is very proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, his faith and his family. He is very proud to serve his country as a U.S. ARMY soldier.


Hi my name is Jessica Maelene Santos (Miss Puerto Rico 2010). I am 21 years old, born and raised on the east side of Bridgeport. I attended Bridgeport public schools my entire life and graduated from Harding High School in 2010. I have attended Housatonic Community College and the University of Bridgeport, majoring in Human Services and Psychology. My goal is getting a bachelors and traveling around the country working for Teachers of America. In my free time, I enjoy going out with my family. I love to take walks at the beach and I love to shop.


Born and raised in Bridgeport,CT. Skylynn Reyes (Miss Teen Puerto Rico 2012) is the daughter of Tanya Berrios, and Luis Reyes. Currently a student at Central Magnet High School as well as the Bridgeport Regional Aquaculture Science & Technology Education Center. Skylynn enjoys playing soccer, volunteering in the community, and participating in the Color Guard Squad. Her plans for the future is to continue to excel academically and to participate in other pageants. After high school Skylynn plans on majoring in science and technology, possibly working in the field of forensic science/criminial justice.
